Balgownie Bendigo is proud to now be working alongside Wine and Spirit Education and Training Trust. We will be offering both Level 1 and Level 2 courses which are suitable for those pursuing a career in wine or even just have a keen interest. WSET provides education and qualifications to inspire and empower both professionals and enthusiasts. WSET qualifications are globally recognised as the International standard in wine and spirit knowledge.

All classes are held at Balgownie Bendigo, 46 Hermitage Road, Maiden Gully, VIC 3551.
Level 1 classes – $300
Level 2 classes – $900

Wednesday 27th September – Wednesday 22nd November 5:30pm – 7:30pm

Lvl 1 – 17/05/23 – 31/05/23

LEVEL 1

LEVEL 1
A beginner level introduction to wine suitable for those starting a wine career or pursuing an interest in wine.

No previous wine knowledge or wine tasting experience is necessary.

You do not need to complete the Level 1 Award in Wines to be eligible for the WSET Level 2. You may enroll directly onto the Level 2 if you prefer.

For individuals new to wine study, the level 1 qualification provides a hands-on introduction to the world of wine. You’ll explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately, and make food and wine pairings.

Course Overview:
The WSET Level 1 Award in Wines covers topics such as:
•The main types and styles of wine
•Common wine grapes and their characteristics
•How to store and serve wine
•The principles of food and wine pairing
•How to describe wine using the WSET Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine

Course Duration:
Our WSET Level 1 courses are delivered in 2 different formats:
•Weekly courses, held evenings from 5.30pm to 7.30pm over a 5-week period;
•Intensive courses 1.5 day course from 9am to 5pm;

Assessment:
Students will sit a closed-book, multiple choice exam consisting of 30 questions. This exam will be sat at the end of the day’s course. Successful completion of the exam will lead to the internationally recognised WSET Level 1 Award in Wines.

Entry Requirements:
You must be of legal drinking age (18) to participate in this course. There are no other requirements for entry.

Lvl 2 - 21/07/23 – 16/08/23

LEVEL 2

LEVEL 2
Providing a great introduction to wine, this globally recognised qualification is suitable for both wine industry professionals and wine enthusiasts.

No previous wine knowledge or wine tasting experience is necessary, and you do not have to have achieved the Level 1 Award in Wines to proceed onto the Level 2 Award.

The level 2 course provides a structured learning environment to introduce you to the major grape varieties and international wine standards. There is focus on European wine styles, so it’s perfect for anyone looking to broaden their horizons and gain an international appreciation of wine.

Course Overview:
The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines will teach you about the fundamentals of the world of wine, covering topics such as:
•How wine is made;
•The major white and black grape varieties and the major wine-producing regions in the world;
•How to read and understand wine labels;
•How to describe wine (tasting);
•Pairing food and wine;
•An introduction to sweet and fortified wines.

Please note that the WSET Level 2 Award in Wines builds on the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines, however you don’t need to have completed the WSET Level 1 Award to sit the Level 2 course.

Course Duration:
Our WSET Level 2 courses are delivered in 2 different formats:
•Weekly courses, held evenings from 5.30pm to 7.30pm over a 9-week period;
•Intensive courses spread over 3 weekdays from 9:30am to 4pm;

All WSET Level 2 courses consist of a minimum of 16 hours of tuition. Please note that an addition 11 hours of personal study and revision is recommended.

Assessment:
Students will sit a closed-book, multiple choice exam consisting of 50 questions. This exam will be sat during the final session of the course. Successful completion of the exam will lead to the internationally recognised WSET Level 2 Award in Wines.

Entry Requirements:
You must be of legal drinking age (18) to participate in this course. There are no other requirements for entry.

Isabelle Agnes

Izzy passed her WSET educator qualification in 2016. Since then, education, show judging and winemaking is her routine as well as completing a degree in Wine Science.
